Re: Recommendation letter for OB
Hello:
It is my pleasure to give OB to your selective Physician Assistant Program. As a senior citizen who receives my health care from a physician assistant, I understand the level of competence and expertise required for this much-needed role in the American healthcare system.
I met OB a few years ago when she was in my Social Welfare History class for her Social Work degree. A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree is a professional degree in which students must exhibit nine competencies that stretch from research and policy knowledge to interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and information and referral. This credential provides an excellent background for medical training.
When you walk into a class, certain students stand out, OB was one of those – very attentive, positive, and engaged. She was grateful for the educational opportunity that was not the norm in her family. She will be the first in her family to earn a graduate degree. OB is such a fine and lively student that when it was time to be placed in her 420-hour, semester-long BSW field internship, I was confident to place her with the Wake Med Pediatric Endocrinology unit, which normally only hosts master’s interns. OB shone in that hands-on medical internship and received a glowing recommendation. She has been committed to becoming a medical professional for many years and has arranged her learning to build up her current plan to become a physician assistant.
As a faculty member and elder, I have come to see that there are many very smart and intelligent persons in the world, and of course, your students must be academically sharp. But to me, character, warmth, dedication, sincerity, and ethics are what the world needs now. The medical context in this country is harsh to all involved . Patients need someone with a level of social skill and heart that brings out old-fashioned healing ways to modern technological healthcare. OB is that person. She will be a wonderful addition to your program. I am committed to keeping up with her as she moves on professionally, as she is a real star. Thank you for giving her serious consideration for admission.
